Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

A richer smoothie with banana, cocoa, peanut butter, milk, and protein powder.

A Creamy Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

This Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie is thick, creamy, and tastes a little like a milkshake while still being simple enough for breakfast or a post-workout snack. The combination of chocolate, peanut butter, and banana gives it a rich flavor without needing a long list of ingredients.

It is a great smoothie when you want something more filling than a basic fruit blend. Protein powder adds staying power, while the frozen banana helps create a smooth, creamy texture that blends especially well in a high-powered blender like a Vitamix.

‍

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup milk, almond milk, or oat milk
  • 1 scoop chocolate or vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1/2 cup ice, optional for a thicker smoothie
  • Pinch of salt, optional

‍

Instructions

  1. Add the milk to the blender first.
  2. Add the frozen banana, protein powder, peanut butter, cocoa powder, Greek yogurt, vanilla, and salt if using.
  3. Add ice if you want a thicker, colder smoothie.
  4. Blend on low speed, then gradually increase to high.
  5. Blend for 30–60 seconds, or until smooth and creamy.
  6. Taste and add honey or maple syrup if you want it sweeter.
  7. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

‍

Blender Tips

For the smoothest texture, use a frozen banana and add the liquid to the blender first. This helps the blades pull the thicker ingredients down evenly.

If you are using a Vitamix, start on the lowest speed and gradually increase to high. The peanut butter, banana, and protein powder should blend into a smooth, creamy texture without clumps.

If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more milk. If it is too thin, add more ice, another half frozen banana, or a spoonful of Greek yogurt.

‍

Easy Variations

For a thicker smoothie, use frozen banana, extra ice, or a little more Greek yogurt.

For a stronger chocolate flavor, add an extra teaspoon of cocoa powder.

For a peanut butter cup flavor, use chocolate protein powder and add a few cacao nibs on top.

For a dairy-free version, use almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk and skip the Greek yogurt or use a dairy-free yogurt.

For a smoothie bowl, reduce the milk to 1/2 cup and top with sliced banana, granola, cacao nibs, and a drizzle of peanut butter.
