Frozen Berry Smoothie Bowl

A thick berry blend made for bowls, toppings, and spoonable texture.

A Thick and Creamy Frozen Berry Smoothie Bowl

This Frozen Berry Smoothie Bowl is cold, creamy, and packed with bright berry flavor. It has the refreshing taste of a smoothie, but with a thicker texture that is perfect for eating with a spoon and loading up with toppings.

Frozen mixed berries give the bowl its deep color and tart-sweet flavor, while banana helps make the texture smooth and creamy. A little yogurt adds richness, and just enough milk helps everything blend without turning it too thin.

‍

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk, almond milk, or oat milk
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional

‍

Topping Ideas

  • Granola
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Sliced strawberries
  • Sliced banana
  • Chia seeds
  • Hemp seeds
  • Shredded coconut
  • Sliced almonds
  • Peanut butter or almond butter
  • Cacao nibs

‍

Instructions

  1. Add 1/4 cup of milk to the blender first.
  2. Add the Greek yogurt, frozen banana, frozen mixed berries, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla if using.
  3. Blend on low speed, then gradually increase to high.
  4. Use the tamper if needed to push the frozen fruit toward the blades.
  5. Blend until the mixture is thick, smooth, and creamy.
  6. Add more milk only if needed, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  7. Scoop into a bowl and add your favorite toppings.
  8. Serve immediately.

Blender Tips

For the thickest smoothie bowl, start with less liquid than you think you need. You can always add more, but once the bowl gets too thin, it is harder to bring back that spoonable texture.

If you are using a Vitamix, use the tamper to keep the frozen fruit moving toward the blades. This helps you blend a thicker bowl without adding too much liquid.

Frozen banana makes the texture creamier, but you can skip it if you prefer a stronger berry flavor. If you leave out the banana, you may want to add a little extra yogurt or a few chunks of frozen mango for creaminess.

‍

Easy Variations

For extra protein, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or use more Greek yogurt.

For a dairy-free version, use almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk and swap the Greek yogurt for a dairy-free yogurt.

For a sweeter bowl, add a pitted date, honey, maple syrup, or a few frozen mango chunks.

For a nutty berry bowl, add 1 tablespoon of almond butter or peanut butter before blending.

For a greener version, add a handful of spinach. The berries will keep the flavor fruity and help hide the greens.
